Wool in summer? Yes you can!

17 Aug 2015

Summer is here and if you are fast bemoaning the perils of spending your 9-5 tugging at your sweating collar, we are here to help. Seeing as most workplaces aren’t T-Shirt friendly but do however advocate knitwear, you can be saved from a torturously warm office slog.

Whoever said you couldn’t wear wool in summer? Here at WoolOvers we are experts at recognising the qualities of different types of wool and are happy to impart our wisdom on which of our yarns are best for tackling the stickier climates…

Cashmere & Merino
Merino wool is mostly recognised for its warmth but it should also be known that whilst it keeps you warm when you’re cold, it also keeps you cool when you’re hot. Merino reduces the rate of heat transfer to the environment due to offering superior insulation to most textiles meaning you’re kept refreshed and cool.
Cashmere is also fast becoming a popular summer attire. Whilst this prestigious material has long been a favourite of the affluent for its natural softness, relative scarcity and its sanctuary against the cold in the perilous degrees, it is little known that it can also protect against the heat. Because it is super absorbent, it helps to cool the body by removing excess moisture and heat caused by sweating in the warmer weather. Our Cashmere is blended with either Cotton or Merino to create a blend that is not only cheaper than pure Cashmere (still retaining a super high quality) but that is highly versatile too.

Silk & Cotton
Silk & Cotton is another blend of ours that will work to keep you cool in the summer. Cotton is a great summer solution as not only is it lightweight and supple but the yarns allow your skin to breathe easily. This is due to the fibers being hollow in the center, allowing them to absorb perspiration and then release it quickly.
Silk, besides its luxurious softness  has natural temperature-regulating properties, largely thanks to its ability to absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. It draws excess heat in the form of moisture from your body, acting as a natural cooling system- the mode moisture trapped by the silk, the cooler it feels to the body.
