Perfect Spring Layering

27 May 2015

Hopefully, the heavy winter coat has been packed away by now as the evenings are longer and lighter, but we often find ourselves in wardrobe limbo for a couple of months as we change our fashion staples from one season to the next.

Layer your clothes with confidence and style with a few tip…

1. Don’t be scared to colour match

Wearing the same colours or very similar colours together can look super stylish and definitely gives layering a fashionable edge. Think pale pinks (or different hues of blues for the brave) and why not introduce a matching accessory as well.

The great thing about our woollens is that if you find a Wool Overs colour that you love, it’s likely that there will be a few other tops in the same colour.

“I already have two camisoles, I’m glad they’ve added the lace effect to a cardigan, and the silk and cotton fabric is so soft! I will definitely be buying more!”

“Great buy, it’s so soft and for such a low price, I love the lace pattern around the neck, I’m so glad they do a longer version now.”

2. A long cardigan goes a long way

A classic, light and long cardigan will get you through many seasons. Wear with pockets over t-shirts and casual summer dresses during the day, or our waterfall cardigan adds a bit of glamour to an evening BBQ or early evening walk.

“Great product. This is a replacement purchase for one I bought some 10 years ago (it still hasn’t worn out, but is starting to be a little ‘tired’ for wearing out). A wardrobe classic. Thank you Wool Overs.”

“I love this cardigan. It is lightweight but warm. Although quite a classic style I find it is quite stylish. True to size. I bought navy, which I thought would go with most things. Nice long length suitable for covering “lumpy bits”.”

“I ordered two of these, one black and one caramel to wear with my work dresses, many of which are sleeveless. I’m a senior manager and it’s important that I look smart and put together and these are just the job, stylish, fashionable and cosy. They are quite long, but fine on me at 5’4″ and beautifully swishy when walking.”

“I bought the dark turquoise in a small. The color is stunning and the fit true to size. I got compliments the first time I wore it. It is so versatile that I can wear it with jeans or skirts.”

“I absolutely love this. Purchased in burgundy, a size M which is perfect for size 14-16 au. Have received many compliments. Fits like a glove & very slimming. Considering buying more colours.”

“I bought 2 of these in medium in the sea green and pepper. I am a size 14 with a bust and found these to fit perfectly with a camisole underneath the large would have been to big. They are very soft perfect for holidays lovely quality, planning on ordering in the grey.”

3. A lightweight scarf

Heavy wool scarves can be a bit too much for this weather, but you still often feel the need to cover your neck. Block colour, light cotton scarves are great in between seasons for layering, easy to keep you warmer in the spring and a head and shoulder cover-up in the summer.

4. A white or denim shirt

Denim and white shirts never really go out of fashion, so most of us probably have one in the wardrobe already. Wear your denim shirt open over a lighter vest or t-shirt and wear your white shirt under a jumper or sleeveless jumper or even use as an easy cover up on the beach over your swimwear.

“Great overall top – well-made, good value for the cost, looks elegant under a tailored jacket, easy to wear for workdays, comfortable and breathable for more casual occasions. French Navy is a classic summer colour, and the Cerise is also lovely.”

“This is perfect over a shirt for me. It would be slightly too big on its own but under a jacket fine. Such a sweet shade of blue and so light I bought a second one in pink!”

5. Start with a fitted neutral top

Our Silk & Cotton camisole is the perfect neutral top to set the basis for easy layering. Vest and simple t-shirts in plain whites, creams and pale greys are ideal as a starting point for layering, as they can be tucked into skirts of jeans and then layered with cardigans and scarves.

“I have never had such a perfect camisole. It clings in all the right places, is soft, doesn’t have any odd gaps, and is a good not-too-long/not-too-short length. Normally, lace patterns look too much like lingerie, but this could be tastefully worn alone as a top on hot days.”

“I have six of the silk/cotton camisoles. Just the right length. A cosy layer, but not too hot. Great.”
