Nature comes to the fore at this splendid time of year. The skyscape changes, offering up captivating clouds and stunning sunrises. The air feels crisp and cool; green slowly fades to brown, orange and red. Change is afoot.
Nature brings not only the wonderful backdrop, which this season beautifully plays out upon, but also the most superb materials for warm and cosy, cold-weather dressing.

The beauty and simplicity of all-natural fibres are perfect for autumn knitwear. Pure wool, lambswool, merino and cashmere – whether in their pure forms, or beautifully blended, come together over fantastic-feeling, good-looking, new styles.
Since day dot, man has looked to all-natural fibres for protection and warmth, and despite exhaustive efforts, science is yet to produce a man-made fibre boasting the same properties and benefits.
As long as grass grows and there are animals to graze, there will be wool, thus all-natural fibres are sustainable and renewable. All-natural fibres are also incredibly biodegradable, quickly decomposing in soil and giving back to the earth. Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, are slow to break down and decompose, if at all.
All-natural fibres tend to be hygroscopic. They absorb and release water vapour appropriately. At the point of absorption, heat is generated and retained, giving natural fibres their wonderful warming properties.
Wool is also brilliantly breathable. It can amazingly absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, making it a smart clothing choice for unsettled weathers.
Knitwear crafted from only-natural fibres looks good and performs longer than its synthetic contemporaries. All-natural fibres resist breaking and tearing well. Their naturally elasticity means they can stretch with the wearer, and beautifully return to their original shape.

Hygroscopic qualities make merino as efficient as it is elegant. This sleek, natural yarn intelligently adapts to your body temperature, keeping you cool when you’re hot, and warm when you’re not. Merino is the perfect choice when it comes to early autumn layering.
Natural fibres are hydrophilic – they are highly absorbent – meaning they can take colour to beautiful ends. Cashmere is particularly hydrophilic; its fine fibres thirstily soak up dyes, producing lovely, richly coloured knitwear.

Natural fibres are odour-resistant. They whisk perspiration away from the body, releasing it into the air before any odour can develop, meaning your natural yarns require little washing.
*Myth-busting moment* Wool is easy to look after!
Gone are the days when you had to laboriously hand-wash your woolies or fork out big for dry cleaning. As long as you take it easy, and show a little tenderness, most of our all-natural knitwear can be machine-washed.
They do not cause allergies; they are gentle and soothing against sensitive, damaged skin; they boast a higher ignition threshold than man-made fibres – thanks to their increased water and nitrogen content – and they also offer good levels of natural UV protection, much higher than any synthetic fibre does.
As the climate cools, thoughts naturally turn to snuggling up in cosy knitwear. However, not all yarns are created equal; our natural-over-synthetic commitment goes towards our knitwear specialism. We trust all-natural yarns. Why not find out why you ought to too?

Autumn is my favourite time of the year and Woolovers is one of my favourite shops. I would love if you'd add some new colours to your range inspired by the natural autumn colours around us such as cinnamon, ochre, spice, conker and all the lovely shades of orange. I can't find your tie-front ballet style cardigans any more. I bought 6 of these in different colours and really miss them. They are so versatile and stylish over tops and dresses and in a Marino cashmere mix would be great for autumn/winter.
