Homemade tree decorations

11 Dec 2015

Putting the tree up marks the start of the festive season, adding the decorations and a bit of sparkle to the home, with hopefully a glass of something and a mince pie. Hopefully you’ve got yours up by now!

Whether you have a huge real tree or a small fake one, it’s nice every year to add a few more ornaments to the tree, so rather than buy them, why not make them yourself for get the kids involved?

A few of our favourites…

Glitter leaves

We love these in all their sparkly goodness from House of Jade. She’s used them for a garland, but we’d use gold or red glitter and then put them on the tree.

Cinnamon Hearts

Sometimes we put teeth busting candy canes on the tree, but these really aren’t great for our teeth, so it’s much nicer to put something homemade on instead. These Cinnamon Hearts from Katy Elliot’s blog are very festive and she’s even used them for gift wrapping as well.

Knitted Christmas Trees

These are lovely from Fab Art DIY and you could even stuff with a few scented cloves or cinnamon to make them extra festive.

Pine Cone Ornament

It doesn’t get much simpler than this from Make It Love It, but very elegant and effective. If you make a few it might be nice, to dip some of them in gold paint or add a bit of glitter to the tips.
