It’s hot, it’s raining, a bit windy, then hot again… sometimes it’s impossible to get your work wardrobe working for you in the British summer with its topsy-turvy climate, even if you are constantly checking the weather app.
Can you wear flip-flops to work?
Or how about a spaghetti strap top?
Maxi-dress?
Generally – we’d say it all depends on the office environment, but maybe leave the bikini top for the beach holiday!
Here are a few key items that you definitely can wear and will help you get through the seasons in style…
A very light-weight trench coat will take you from spring, summer to autumn, so it’s a really good yearly buy. Think light-weight, it’s all very well having an expensive beautiful trench, but quite often you’ll need to carry it when you’re on/off public transport, so it’s better to keep it fairly portable.
You want something you can fit in a bag and that goes with everything. Something like our Silk & Cotton or Cotton & Cashmere scarves are ideal as they can be stuffed in a bag without too much thought, until it gets a bit chilly in the evening.
The Cotton & Cashmere scarf comes in 18 plain colours, so can be worn over a t-shirt instead of a jumper.
We don’t wear enough hats. How often do you see a woman wearing a hat and think she looks great? Loads! That’s why we should get one… not only to save our hair from the rain, but it’ll also work as great protection when the suns on full beam and take you through to the colder months before Christmas, when you need to keep warm.
We are living in cardigans at the moment. They go a long way as they can be worn with practically everything and are much more comfortable than lugging a jacket around. Our favourites this summer are the Boxy Casual Cardigan and the Deep Vee Casual Tunic Cardigan, as they are loose fitting with a versatile sleeve that can be worn just passed the elbow to keep things cool.
A large tote bag or one that folds out and can be carried in your regular handbag, can be very handy when you need to carry around extra shoes for the evening or the threat of rain means you need to carry a jacket.
Cheap t-shirts can become very scruffy quickly after lots of washes, so getting a couple of good quality ones, that keep there shape through out the day will stop them from looking tatty.
Our Silk & Cotton Textured Tee Shirt is a great example, available in 10 plain colours, so it can go with everything, it’s lovely and soft and won’t lose it’s shape.
